...passes a vote of confidence on Damagum to be confirmed a substantive national Chair

The Adamawa State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has backed Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who was the Chairman of the Edo PDP National Campaign Council and said that the PDP candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo garnered the highest votes, making him to be the winner of the election.

The party in a press conference at the party’s secretariat in Yola where the state chairman, Barr.AT. Shehu addressed journalists and praised Governor Fintiri’s boldness by describing him a fearless democrat that wish Nigerian democracy well.

Shehu told media men that the party in Adamawa followed and monitored the events as they unfolded during the Edo Governorship Election which took place on the 21st September, 2024 and regretted that the right person that won the election was not declared a winner.

Shehu said they are unequivocally with Fintiri’s submission and stand by the results presented by him come what may.

The Adamawa PDP under Shehu’s leadership slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for showing vested desperation which implored all lethal means, including violent manipulation to
subvert the wishes of the generality of Edo People.

“This act of brigandry will further deepen voter apathy, thereby making nonsense of our democratic process. The day light political robbery by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State cannot be achieved without the active connivance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and some Security personnel. This is rather shameful and a threat to our nascent democracy.” Shehu Said

Shehu further said the party in Adamawa has passed a vote of confidence on the party’s acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum and the PDP Governors’ Forum chaired by His Excellency, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON. Executive Governor Bauchi State, that the Edo Governorship election was highly compromised.

The party threatened legal action and proactive measure to ensure that the stolen mandate in Edo State is retrieved.

They endorsed Damagum to lead them as a substantive national Chairman:

“The Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party is clear on the position of existing vacancy. Section 47 (6) states thus:
“Where a vacancy occurs in any of the offices of the Party, the Executive Committee at the appropriate level shall appoint another person from the area or zone where the officer originated from to serve out the tenure of the officer.”

“The Former National Chairman is from the Northern Zone, therefore, Sen. Umar Iliya Damagum, the Deputy National Chairman (Northern Zone) is most qualified to serve out the tenure of the former National Chairman. We therefore, support the Position of our Governor Rt. Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and other Governors who reiterated that Sen. Umar Iliya Damagun should serve out the tenure of the erstwhile Chairman which is in line with the Supreme Court Judgment.” Shehu added
