As Edo State prepares for its gubernatorial election on September 21, 2024, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has thrown his support behind Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
In a statement, Atiku criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for its alleged failures in governance, citing rising poverty, insecurity, and hardship under its watch. He accused the APC of prioritizing power over the welfare of the people.
Atiku urged Edo State voters to reject the APC and choose Dr. Ighodalo, highlighting his integrity, vision, and commitment to the people’s well-being. He emphasized that a vote for Ighodalo would bring positive change to the state and send a strong message across Nigeria.
The people of Edo State have the power to shape their future
“The people of Edo State have the power to shape their future,” Atiku said. “I implore them to make an informed decision, considering the APC’s track record and Dr. Ighodalo’s promise of prosperity, dignity, and hope.”
Atiku’s endorsement comes as the election campaign intensifies, with Dr. Ighodalo facing off against the APC candidate.
The APC has yet to respond to Atiku’s statement. Dr. Ighodalo’s campaign team has welcomed the endorsement, saying it reflects the broad support for their candidate’s vision.
