Edo State Sounds Alarm: Dengue Fever Outbreak Grips Region with 86 Confirmed Cases

Edo State’s Commissioner of Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, announced a dengue fever outbreak during a press conference in Benin City on Saturday. The state has confirmed 86 cases across multiple local government areas, raising concerns among health officials and residents.

“We have confirmed 86 cases of dengue fever across several local government areas. While the number of deaths is still under verification, the trend is worrisome and calls for decisive, collective action,” Dr. Oshiomhole stated, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral infection, is known for causing high fever, severe headaches, joint and muscle pain, and, in severe cases, life-threatening complications. The outbreak has prompted the state health ministry to launch an aggressive response, including public awareness campaigns and mosquito control measures.

Health authorities are urging residents to eliminate standing water, use mosquito repellents, and seek immediate medical attention for symptoms. “This is a collective fight. We need everyone to take preventive steps to curb the spread,” Dr. Oshiomhole added.

The state government has assured the public that it is working closely with federal health agencies and international partners to contain the outbreak.
