Education Takes Center Stage in Adamawa: Gov Fintiri’s Bold Initiative

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa stated that education remains his administration’s top priority and assured support for partners and stakeholders. At the state’s education policy validation meeting, held in collaboration with the Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI) and funded by the Malala Foundation in Yola, Fintiri emphasized the policy document’s role as a guide for education development in the state and country.

Represented by Deputy Governor Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, Fintiri urged partners and stakeholders to support the policy’s implementation to achieve the goal of educating Adamawa’s citizens.

Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Pella, explained that the draft policy addresses gaps in the state’s education sector for further development. “The Adamawa State Policy on Education aligns with the National Policy on Education, considering our unique socio-economic, cultural, and geographical context. It outlines priorities across basic, post-basic, tertiary, technical, vocational, and non-formal education.”

UNICEF Education Specialist Abdulrahaman Ado expressed confidence that the policy will address out-of-school children challenges, update outdated curricula, provide safe learning environments, and ensure teacher capacity building.

Dr. Godwin Adukwu, Regional Advisor for USAID’s Learn to Read Project, emphasized that the policy document serves as a roadmap for interventions. He assured readiness to build capacity for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) working towards education goals.
