As the United Nations as well as world leaders celebrate the UN International Day of Education today, the International Association of World Peace Advocates IAWPA, has recognised the contributions of Professor Ahmed Modibbo to the development of education in the country by appointing him as a Global Champion of Education and Eminent Peace Ambassador.
Prof. Ahmed Modibbo who is of the Department of History at the Nasarawa state University Keffi, was Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC and also Chief Executive of the National Teachers Institute (NTI).
A Statement buy the International spokesman of the association Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke which was made available to newsmen in Abuja said the award will be presented to the foremost educationist at the auditorium of the Nasarawa State University on Friday the 29th of January 2021 when the institution will be recognised as the most peaceful state owned University in the country for the year 2020.
The statement said the international Directorate for African Affairs of the association after receiving recommendations for the Global Champion of Education award for the year 2020 settled for Prof. Modibbo due to what the statement referred to as his “intimidating contributions to Education as well as peace not only in Nigeria but the world at large”.
He said the association has made it as it’s focal point to recognise the contributions of Nigerians especially those who are not in political positions to the development of peace and education in the country and the world at large.
The statement also congratulated the Nasarawa state University Governing Council on the emergence of the school as the most peaceful state owned university in the country for last year. “despite the incidence of the Covid 19 pandemic as well as the strikes and #endsars protests that characterised last year, the school maintained a commitment to peace which we at the association under the United Nations ECOSOC special Consultative Status recognise and wish to promote as a way of encouraging peace in Nigerian educational institutions” the statement said.
Prof. Ahmed Modibbo aside being at the helm at UBEC and NTI, has also served the country in several capacities, including the Ministerial Committee on the Review/ Drafting of White Paper on Visitation Panel reports to federal universities in Nigeria between October and December 1999.
He was also a board member of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and member of the National Committee on West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC)
