Economic and financial crimes commission , EFCC, Makurdi zonal command of Benue State has arrested two former bankers for allegedly stealing money belonging to dead customer,s account.
The Anti graft agency uncovered the development on Friday in Makurdi, the state capital and the culprits have been arrested in connection with the theft.
It was further learnt the duo were two former staff of union Bank branch in the State capital city before they were shown the way out of service due to frequent shoddy deals
The EFCC officials were said to have apprehended the two former union Bank staff for allegedly stealing the sum of N4,199,500.00 four million one hundred and Ninety Nine Thousand Five Hundred Naira belonging to deceased customer of the bank.
The suspects, Idah Ogoh and Agbo Okwute were arrested on Friday, June 21, 2024 in Makurdi, Benue State.respectectively
TG News gathered their arrest became necessary following petition against the culprits by their nefarious fraudulent debits as raised by deceased customer relatives.
The complainants relatives gave the names of the deceased as Emmanuel Azer Agema identified with the account.
However their shoddy was leaked when the family of late Emmanuel Azer Agema approached the bank verify balance for probate processing.
It was discovered the family were dissatisfied with the statement of account and subsequently raised alarm of unauthorised debits recorded.
Following their complaints the bank swung into action and embarked on internal investigation and the discovery were unveiled that debit card was procured on the deceased’s customer account which revealed on May 10,2023 withdrawal allegedly recorded by Ifah 0goh, Service Associates Authorized on the same day
However investigation showed that the procured card by Ogoh was handed over to another Sales and Service Associates, in the person of Agbo Omwute who eventually delivered the card to an accomplice for transfer and withdrawal of funds from the account of the deceased. Several withdrawals were allegedly made by the suspects through the accomplice
The matter is been investigated soon as the case is concluded the suspects would be charged to court
.
