Governor Mohammadu Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa State describe the dead of former Vice President, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekuweme as a great lost to the country,Alex died in a London clinic on Sunday 19th November, 2017.
While describing the sad event as a great loss not only to Ndigbo, but to Nigeria and Africa in general and pray for God to give the entire Igbo race the fortitude to bear the irreparable lost.
A statement by the SA Media and publicity to the governor, Macauley Hunohashi, says the Governor was deeply saddened by the death of Dr Ekueme because, “it came at a time when his experience, wisdom and knowledge of governance would have been needed in the quest to move Nigeria to greater heights.”
Sen Jibrilla Bindow described the late Dr Ekueme as an iconoclast who lived a simple and modest lifestyle, with love and fear of God as his watchword.
He prayed God to grant late Dr Ekueme eternal rest and his family the strenght to bear the irreparable loss.
The former Vice President, who turned 85 in October, reportedly collapsed in his Enugu residence few weeks ago.
He was immediately taken to Memfys Neurosurgion Hospital, Enugu, where he relapsed and went into a coma.
President Muhammadu Buhari subsequently directed that he be immediately flown abroad for urgent medical treatment.
Born Octorber 21, 1932, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekueme was Nigeria’s first elected vice President.
He served as deputy to President Shehu Shagari between 1979 and 1983.
