El-Rufai, Buhari, Amaechi Absent As APC Holds NEC Meeting Amidst Heavy Security

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting kicked off in Abuja on Wednesday, with a heavy security presence cordoning off roads leading to the venue. Journalists were restricted from entering, despite the release of an accredited list of reporters.

Prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shetimma, Senate President Goodwill Akpabio, and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, attended the meeting. However, notable absences included former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai, and former Governor of Rivers State Rotimi Amaechi.

The NEC meeting, the first since Tinubu’s assumption of office in May 2023, follows the national caucus meeting of the party held at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday. Some APC chieftains have expressed concerns about the lack of internal democracy within the party.

The meeting was presided over by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, with governors from various states, including Edo, Benue, and Lagos, in attendance. Former governors and ministers also participated in the meeting.
