Based on the 2922 electoral act amendment,the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Adamawa Gubernatorial aspirant , Dr Umar Ardo said all those who are holding public offices in the state and not resign are not longer qualify because the 30 days grace to do that has elapsed.
The SDP top notch said appointees such as Commissioners, Advisers, Special Assistants, Chief of Staff, CEOs of parastatals, Chairmen of Boards,and many others who are desirous of contesting elective offices in the state but have not so far resigned their current offices less than 30 days to the primaries in compliance with section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022, cannot now contest the elections.
“Any attempt on such persons to now go into the contests while holding such appointments or resigning less than 30 days to their parties’ primaries will be a gross violation of the Electoral Act and therefore ineligible to contest. And if they attempt to do so they will be challenged in the law court.” Ardo said
