The Bauchi state Executive Council has on Wednesday approved the renovation and upgrading project of palaces of four emirs in the state worth N2.3 billion.
Briefing newsmen after the state executive council meeting, the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourable Ahmed Sarki Jalam said that the project were approved as part of effort by the present administration to create a conducive working environment for the traditional leaders for effective discharge of their duties.
According to him, the Palace of Bauchi Emir will cost N700 million while that of Ningi, Dass and Jama’are is to gulp N500 million each.
The commissioner explained that the gesture was to creat a conducive environment for the traditional institutions to discharge their duties.
“Actually each and everyone of us will believe that our traditional Institution are our pride and are the custodians of our culture. Sometimes in August this year the local government chairmen sat and discussed and agreed that the palaces of our Royal fathers should be renovated and upgraded for proper and ease of administration”, h Said.
The Commissioner said, to that regard, a memo was submitted to the governor for renovation and upgrade of palaces of Emirs of Jama’are, Ningi, Dass and Bauchi.
“The renovation and upgrade of the four palaces is going to cost the state about 2.3 billion Naira, 500 million naira for each of the three emirs while that of Bauchi is to gulp 700 million naira”, Jalam further detailed.
Speaking earlier, Governor Bala Mohammed who presides over the meeting announced that his administration has so far spent over N90 billion on infrastructure.
