#EndBadGovernance: DSS arrests, grills seven Polish nationals

Department of State Services has arrested and is currently investigating seven citizens of Poland arrested in connection with the violent nationwide protest against hunger and hardship in Kano State.

DSS Spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, disclosed this at a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tugar and members of the diplomatic corps on Wednesday.

DSS Rep, who was answering questions from newsmen, explained that the seven Polish nationals were arrested over the display of foreign flags in the North-West region.

Afunaya said those arrested are being investigated, stressing however that their arrest was not a targeted attempt on Polish nationals.

Minister of information, Mohammed Idris, a representative of the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police and the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, also attended the meeting.

The meeting was convened following the nationwide protest across the country which began on August the first, 2024.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs in his address, highlighted Federal Government’s effort to enhance socioeconomic development, which he said has resulted in the reduction on debt servicing from 90 per cent to 68 per cent, as well as other interventions to ensure food security, create jobs and investments.

Ambassador Tuggar lamented that the past few days have witnessed bad narratives on social media, adding that this is currently threatening the peace and stability of the nation.

But the Minister assured that the Federal Government remained committed to protecting members of the diplomatic corps, as well as Nigerians in line with international laws.

He warned that the government would not spare anyone found guilty of funding the protest both from within and outside the shores of the country.

The DSS had earlier vowed to name sponsors of foreign-flag-flying protesters to promote insurrection in the country.

Speaking at a joint news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Spokesperson of the Service, Peter Afunanya said the identities of the persons will soon be made public.

He urged Nigerians to be patient with the Federal Government.
