Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has expressed disappointment over the federal government’s decision to release minors arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests in August. Zulum argued that the minors should have been sent to remand homes as a corrective measure to deter others from engaging in similar acts of dissent.

The governor criticized the federal authorities for missing an opportunity to instill discipline in the younger generation. He stated that instead of releasing the minors, they should have been taken to a remand home or rehabilitation center to serve as a deterrent.

Zulum’s comments came after President Bola Tinubu ordered the release of the underage children arraigned before the Federal High Court, following national and global outrage and condemnation. The minors were arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests in August and were charged with treason.

The governor’s stance on the matter has sparked debate, with some arguing that the minors should have been released and reintegrated into society, while others support Zulum’s call for stricter measures to deter future protests.

It’s worth noting that Zulum has been a vocal advocate for reforming the Almajiri system, which has been linked to poverty, illiteracy, and radicalization. The governor has implemented various initiatives aimed at addressing these issues and promoting education and economic empowerment in the state.
