Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has pledged to combat election rigging and bad governance ahead of the 2027 general elections, vowing that “enough is enough” for Nigerians suffering amid abundant national resources. Speaking during a meeting with Gombe stakeholders led by former Minister and Senator Idris Abdullahi on Friday, Atiku outlined his vision for transformative change through the newly adopted African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

Atiku, a key figure in the opposition coalition, emphasized the coalition’s commitment to ushering in responsible leadership. “The coalition of opposition leaders under the umbrella of the ADC will work assiduously to bring positive change that transforms the lives of our people,” he declared.
He highlighted the integrity of the coalition’s interim leadership, including former Senate President David Mark as National Chairman and ex-Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, as evidence of their readiness to deliver accountable governance.

The Gombe delegation, expressing unwavering support, joined the ADC and praised Atiku for his historical role in the state’s development. They credited him with laying the foundation for Gombe’s progress by supporting the election of Danjuma Goje as governor in 2003.

The ADC, recently adopted by opposition heavyweights including Atiku, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi, aims to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. However, the coalition faces internal resistance, with some ADC members, including 2023 presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu, criticizing the takeover as lacking due process.
Despite such challenges, Atiku remains optimistic, asserting that the coalition’s diverse support base, including disgruntled members from the PDP, Labour Party, and APC, positions it as a formidable force.

Atiku’s pledge comes amid ongoing controversies over the coalition’s formation, with critics like FCT Minister Nyesom Wike labeling it a “backdoor plot” to favor northern candidates, specifically Atiku, in 2027.
Nonetheless, Atiku reiterated that the coalition transcends mere political power, aiming to address systemic issues like poverty and underdevelopment. “Nigerians cannot continue to suffer amidst an abundance of resources owing to bad governance,” he stressed, signaling a fierce battle for the presidency in 2027.
