President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the recent spate of killings in Benue State, describing the violence as “senseless bloodletting” and declaring, “Enough is enough!” In a strongly worded statement, the President directed security agencies to act swiftly to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the attacks, regardless of their affiliations.

The violence in Benue, primarily linked to longstanding farmer-herder conflicts and communal clashes, has claimed numerous lives and displaced thousands in recent months. Reports indicate that armed groups have targeted rural communities, leaving a trail of destruction.

President Tinubu’s directive comes amid growing public outrage over the recurring bloodshed. “I have been briefed on the senseless bloodletting in Benue State,” he said, emphasizing that the perpetrators must face justice. He urged security agencies to act decisively to restore order and ensure accountability.

In a call for restraint, the President cautioned political and community leaders in Benue against making inflammatory statements that could exacerbate tensions.
“This is not the time for divisive rhetoric but for unity and responsible leadership,” he stated. He specifically urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to take charge as a statesman, leading efforts toward dialogue and reconciliation to foster lasting peace.
Tinubu stressed the need for collaboration among leaders across all divides, advocating for fairness, openness, and justice in addressing the root causes of the conflict.
“Our people must live in peace, and it is possible when leaders work together in harmony,” he said, expressing confidence in the potential for resolution through collective action.
Governor Alia, responding to the President’s directive, pledged to initiate peace talks and work with stakeholders to de-escalate tensions. Local leaders and civil society groups have also welcomed the President’s intervention, though many emphasized the need for sustained efforts to address underlying issues such as land disputes and economic marginalization.
