The Enugu State Government has fully shut down all operations of Bet9ja in the state following persistent regulatory violations.

The action was carried out by the Enugu State Gaming and Lottery Commission (ESGLC), which sealed the company’s head office in Enugu and is extending the closure to all Bet9ja outlets across the state.
The shutdown follows an order from the High Court of Enugu State in Suit No. 6/54/2025, involving the ESGLC and KC Gaming Networks Limited, the operators of Bet9ja. The court, presided over by Justice H.O. Eya, granted an ex-parte order authorizing the commission to seal, lock, and restrict access to the company’s premises.
According to Prince Arinze Arum, Executive Secretary of the ESGLC, the enforcement became necessary after repeated warnings, administrative notices, and demand letters to Bet9ja went unheeded.
The violations include failure to revalidate operational licences, non-payment of outstanding statutory fees, and failure to remit assessed gross gaming revenue as required under the Enugu State Gaming and Lottery Law.
Arum emphasized that the state exhausted all administrative options before resorting to legal action. “This is a total shutdown,” he stated. “No operator is above the law, and violations will attract consequences. We are enforcing compliance, and this applies to all gaming operators, big or small.”
The commission described the move as a firm step to uphold regulatory standards and ensure that betting companies meet their financial and legal obligations to the state government.
Bet9ja has not yet issued an official public response to the shutdown. The case is set for further hearing, and the restrictions remain in place pending compliance or final court determination.
This development has sparked reactions among residents and bettors in Enugu, with some expressing concerns over the impact on local businesses and users of the platform. The state government maintains that the action protects public interest and promotes responsible gaming practices.
