The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Sen Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla Bindow,admonished politicians to eschew campaign of calumny, inflamatory remarks, mudslinging, hate speech and actions that are antithetical to contemporary democratic norms and values.
He said this because of the current atmosphere of relative peace and tranquility the state is enjoying, attesting it will encaurage him to consolidate on the pragmatic achievement recorded in the last three and half years.
In a press statement signed by his Special Assistant on media and publicity,Mr Macauley Hunohashi Said the kick-starting date for political campaigns draws nearer politicians should imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship for the purpose of unity and development.
He noted that against the backdrop of the recently concluded primary election in the state the political current had become charged with claims and counter claims, “but today i can boldly say that the state has remained peaceful, with political elites beginning to appreciate my tangible score-card and political thugery taking the back stage. This is the kind of enviable legacy i would like to bequeath our younger generation”, he stated.
Sen Jibrilla derided the needless antics of meddlesome interloppers and disgruntled politicians who hold a fixated exergeration that they have the final say in the affairs of the state, emphasising that, “i have no body to rely on apart from God my creator who gives power and the ‘Talakawa’ of Adamawa State who voted me into office in 2015”.
He stated that seeking elective office therfore should be prompted by the zeal to serve the people in terms of provision of the much needed dividends of good governance, “and that was what i have achieved since i was voted into office and my tangible projects, spread across 18 out of 21 local government areas are verifiable”.
“At this auspicious time in our political trajectory it has become expedient for me to encaurage healthy political debate, based on issues, rather than engaging in political rhetorics that take societies on a donward spiral”.
Sen Jibrilla therefore called on politicians who have a penchant for political thugery to desist from using innocent youths for political instability and ill-feeling, “and to our innocent youths who avail themselves as cannon-fodder and willing tools of selfish politicians, i please charge you to open your eyes and you would soon realize that you are only being used and only to be discarded”.
