In a statement announcing his decision, the retired senior military officer declared his intention to exit what he described as the “murky waters of Nigerian politics.”

Abubakar, who served as Chief of Air Staff from 2015 to 2021 under the late President Muhammadu Buhari, had contested the Bauchi State governorship ticket of the APC in previous election cycles. His sudden exit marks the end of a relatively short but notable political journey following a distinguished military career.

The former air chief, known for his discipline and professionalism in the Nigerian Air Force, did not provide further details on his future plans.

However, his departure is seen as a significant development in Bauchi State politics, where he had been viewed as a potential major contender.
