‘Exercise Restraint, Return to Diplomacy’: French President, Macron Tells Iran

In a series of high-level diplomatic engagements, French President Emmanuel Macron called on Iran to exercise restraint and prioritize diplomacy amid escalating tensions in the region.

Speaking after discussions with key Middle Eastern leaders, including the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, the Sultan of Oman, the President of the United Arab Emirates, and the Emir of Qatar, Macron expressed solidarity with regional partners and emphasized the need for de-escalation.

In a direct message to the President of Iran, Macron reiterated France’s demand for the immediate release of two French citizens, Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, who remain detained. The call comes in the wake of recent military strikes, which have heightened concerns about regional stability.

“Following last night’s strikes, I urged Iran to exercise the utmost restraint in this dangerous context,” Macron stated. “A return to diplomacy is essential to prevent further escalation and to secure peace and security for all.”

Macron stressed that engaging in meaningful dialogue and obtaining a clear commitment from Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions are critical steps to avoid catastrophic consequences for the region. “There is no alternative,” he said.

“Diplomacy is the only path forward.”

The French president’s remarks underscore growing international concern over Iran’s actions and the urgent need for a coordinated diplomatic response to ensure stability in the Middle East.
