AFAN-CJ: Faith Leaders Tasked With Ethical, Liturgical Roles In Promoting Climate Action

Africa Faith Actors Network for Climate Justice (AFAN-CJ) has been tasked with ethical, watchdog and liturgical roles in promoting sustainable resource use and climate action.

The call was made during the AFAN-CJ Continental Capacity Strengthening And Review Round Table currently taking place in Nairobi, Kenya from Monday 26th to Friday 30th August, 2024.

They should be at the fore front in contributing to policies and negotiations on #climateChange.”

According to the leadership of AFAN-CJ, faith actors must demand accountability from political leaders and contribute to policy formulation. A participant said, “since faith leaders interact directly with victims of climate crisis, they should be at the fore front in contributing to policies and negotiations on #climateChange.”

He stressed that the ethical duty of the church is to get involved in training their faith communities to be stewards of the Earth, promoting actions that mitigate climate change and promote sustainable production and consumption.

“During Liturgy, faith actors need to Incorporate themes of creation care in worship activities and

develop spiritual practices that reflect awareness of environmental stewardship.” He said.
