Taraba State University has on Wednesday confirmed that Falling trees have hit and killed three of its students who are on a research trip at a wild life park in Northern Cameroon.
The University’s Deputy Registrar, Information and Publication, Mallam Sanusi Sa’ad, told our correspondent in Jalingo ,that the deceased were 400 level students of Biological Science Department.
He listed the names of the students to include Nancy Sam-Achak, Grace Thomas and Yusuf Mohammed, the president of the department’s students association.
Sa’ad said the incident occurred on Monday at Bouba Njidda National Wild Life Park, Garoua, when giant trees fell on the students during a devastating rainstorm at about 3:15 pm.
The official said the Head of the Department, Dr. Robert Houmso, and 16 students were believed to be receiving treatment at a Garoua hospital for bad injuries they sustained in the disaster.
A lecturer with the department who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there were 35 students and six staff on the school trip.
The source, who did not have permission to speak with journalists, said students of the department had been visiting the park since 2016 to study some mysterious trees that were believed to have existed for centuries.
