In a formal tribute released on May 10, 2026, Dr. Fayemi described his father’s attainment of 100 years as “a rare divine blessing,” praising the Afenifere leader’s lifetime of sacrifice, courage, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice, good governance, and the advancement of the Yoruba people within a united, democratic Nigeria.

“Reaching the age of one hundred is itself a rare divine blessing; attaining it with such dignity, and enduring relevance to national life is even more remarkable,” Fayemi wrote.

He lauded Chief Fasoranti as a father figure, teacher, mentor, counselor, and moral compass to many, noting his consistent role as one of the “steadfast voices whose convictions in moments of political uncertainty and national turbulence” remained unshaken.

The tribute highlighted Chief Fasoranti’s distinguished career in education and public service. A graduate of the then University College Ibadan and holder of postgraduate qualifications from the University of Hull and the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, he served as a teacher, administrator, and community leader. Fayemi emphasized his father’s early understanding that “the future of any society rests on the quality of its education and the moral character of its citizens.”

Politically, Chief Fasoranti is portrayed as an astute politician and frontline figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggles. He was actively involved in the Action Group during the First Republic, served as a Commissioner in the old Western Region, and remained resolute during military dictatorships.

The elder statesman’s steadfast defense of democratic freedoms, constitutionalism, and the rights of the people helped sustain the democratic spirit that led to the rebirth of civilian rule in Nigeria.

Beyond politics, Fayemi noted his father’s immense contributions to Yoruba progressive politics, federalism, equity, and inclusive development. “His interventions on national issues have always reflected uncommon patriotism and a sincere desire for a peaceful, prosperous, and united Nigeria,” he stated.

At 100, Chief Fasoranti remains, in his son’s words, “a towering symbol of integrity in public life,” with a life measured “not by power or position, but by sacrifice, consistency, and fidelity to principle.”

Dr. Fayemi, signing on behalf of his wife Bisi and the entire family, extended warm congratulations to his father and prayed for continued peace, strength, and joy.

The centenary celebration of the Afenifere chieftain is expected to draw tributes from across Nigeria’s political and traditional spectrum, reflecting the elder statesman’s enduring legacy as one of the nation’s most respected voices for democracy and ethical leadership.
