FCE Yola to Honour Ribadu, Joda, Gidado, Eight Others at 50th Anniversary

The Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola has concluded arrangements to honour 11 personalities for their immense contributions to humanity and education during its forthcoming tripartite events to mark its 50th anniversary.

The Provost of the college, Dr. Muhammad Usman Degereji, made the disclosure during a press conference, noting that the tripartite events include the 15th Convocation Ceremony, 50th Anniversary Celebration and the Nigeria Colleges of Education Games Association (NICEGA).

He noted that posthumous awards will be given to distinguished personalities for their meritorious services to the nation.

The games will participate in various sporting activities and come to an end on November 9th, 2024

The award recipients are Late Ahmed Joda, Late Ahmadu Ribadu, Professor Jubril Aminu, Late Professor Gidado Tahir, Professor Samuel Alaideno, Professor Peter Lassa, Late Musa Waziri, Madam Asia Mamman, Maikano Tafida, Late Alhaji Iya Abbas and Professor Kaletapwa Farauta.

Degereji disclosed that adequate modalities have been put in place to ensure the success of NICEGA games, which will be attended by no fewer than 20 colleges of education around the federation. The games will participate in various sporting activities and come to an end on November 9th, 2024.

N162 million is budgeted for the tripartite event, mainly sourced from well-meaning donors and friends of the college

He said the school’s sporting arena has been rejuvenated to ensure the success of the event, which will kick off on Friday, November 1st, 2024.

The Provost added that thousands of students are expected to participate in the 15th combined convocation ceremony, covering the period between 2011 and 2023, which will hold on Saturday.

Other activities slated to mark the tripartite event include the launch of a book in honour of Professor Gidado Tahir, the pioneer Provost of the college, and a display of the college archives to showcase its deep roots and history.

Degereji added that about N162 million is budgeted for the tripartite event, mainly sourced from well-meaning donors and friends of the college.

He allayed fears of any impending hitch, stating that the college has ensured the right infrastructure and enabling environment are in place to guarantee the overall success of the games.
