FCTA Cancels 485 Land Allocations in Abuja Over Failed Genuineness Checks

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has cancelled 485 land allocations in Abuja’s area councils after a verification exercise revealed that the documents failed official checks and many were confirmed fake or forged.

The move, approved by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, targets applications submitted for regularization of area council land documents. A public notice from the FCTA’s Departments of Land Administration and Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS), marked as Batch I, announced the nullifications and stated that the invalid documents have been removed from the regularization database.

The notice explained that the cancellations cover applications which “failed the necessary official checks for genuineness and have been confirmed to be fake.” It serves as the official communication to affected applicants and the public, with indications that more batches may follow in the ongoing cleanup of irregularities in Abuja’s land system.

The affected allocations are spread across Bwari, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and Kuje area councils. Specific impacted layouts include Ushafa Village Expansion Scheme, Ushafa Extension, and Dawaki Extension 1 in Bwari; Sabon Lugbe, Lugbe I Extension, Kurudu-Jikwoyi Relocation, Kurudu Commercial, Karu Village Extension, Nyanya Phase IV Extension, and Jikwoyi Residential in AMAC; and Kuchiyako One layout in Kuje.

This crackdown is part of wider efforts by the FCTA to tackle fraud, forgery, and irregularities in land administration. Authorities stressed that all land in the Federal Capital Territory remains vested in the Federal Government under the Land Use Act of 1978, and only properly verified allocations will be upheld.

Affected individuals are urged to take note of the public notice as guidance, while the FCTA continues its verification drive to restore credibility and transparency to land records in the territory.
