Federal High Court Adjourned Leke Abejide’s Suit Against Mark, Aregbesola to Tuesday for Judgment

The high-stakes legal battle over the soul of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) took a fresh twist today as the Federal High Court in Abuja stood down proceedings in a suit filed by House of Representatives member Hon. Leke Abejide and formally adjourned the matter to Tuesday, April 14, 2026, for delivery of judgment.

The case, with Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1637/2025, pits Abejide (as plaintiff) against the African Democratic Congress (ADC), its former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, Senator David Mark, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.

Presided over by Hon. Justice Musa Suleiman Liman, the court had earlier fixed today, Monday, April 13, for judgment after counsel to all parties adopted their written addresses and presented final arguments last week.

However, the matter was stood down during today’s sitting and formally adjourned to tomorrow for the pronouncement of the court’s decision.

Abejide is seeking, among other reliefs, an order nullifying the purported handover of ADC leadership by Ralph Nwosu to Senator David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary on July 2, 2025, describing the transition as illegal, unlawful, null and void.

He also wants the court to restrain Mark and Aregbesola from parading themselves in those positions.

The suit forms part of the deepening leadership crisis rocking the ADC, which has seen rival factions laying claim to the party’s control ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While Abejide and his allies, including Nafiu Bala Gombe, have accused the Mark-led team of hijacking the party, the Mark faction has maintained that the leadership change was properly effected and has even filed a separate suit urging INEC to restore their names on the commission’s portal.

Today’s adjournment comes barely a day after intense arguments were concluded and just as another related suit involving the ADC leadership tussle is slated for hearing tomorrow before a different judge of the same court.

As tension continues to mount within the ADC, stakeholders are watching keenly to see how Justice Liman’s ruling will reshape the party’s future and influence the broader opposition landscape as Nigeria approaches another election cycle.
