FG CALLS TO PARTNER CIVIL SOCIETY ON HUMAN RIGHT ADVOCACY

It hs been observed that, the federal Government has limited security forces that will be ablle to cover and protect the rights of citizenry across the country.

A senior Adviser on Peace and good governance for Search for Common Ground, Comrade Cham Bagu disclosed this in an opening remark at a two-day workshop organised for civil society, judiciary, NGOs and the Media among other stakeholders aimed at outlining a plan to engage on advocacy on how to reduce human rights abuses in the northeast, held in Girei Local Government area of Adamawa state.

He said, the federal Government needs support from the civil society becaurse it is able to defend and protect people’s rights who do not have the power or knowledge to defend themselves.

Comrade Cham Magu explained that, the workshop was also aimed at working together with human rights and human interest groups in Adamawa state to beging to build coalition that will start working systematically on human rights by human rights abuses, as well as engage on advocacy campaign.

“we are trying to form a coalition that will engage in sensitization and enlightement working with security agencies and the government to make sure that the rights of citizens of Adamawa state are protected”.

Commenting on the proposed rehabilitation of the northeast region by the federal government,  Comrade Magu stated that the move is commendable and expressed optimism that the development will go hand in hand with protecting people and to take them out of the trauma they have been suffered in the last six years as a result of insurgency.
