Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, CON, announced the initiative during a capacity-building session for procurement officers at the National Universities Commission (NUC) Auditorium in Abuja.

Dr. Alausa highlighted that incomplete documentation, weak submissions, and procedural issues have long caused delays in implementing key education projects. He stressed the importance of stronger compliance to ensure efficient use of public resources and timely project delivery.

PICOMS digitizes the entire procurement workflow, allowing real-time tracking of submissions, faster approvals, and better oversight. The platform will cover the Federal Ministry of Education, its agencies, commissions, parastatals, and tertiary institutions nationwide.

The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Adebowale Adebukola Adedokun, also addressed the session, pointing out common challenges like poor documentation that hinder progress.

The government reaffirmed its dedication to greater transparency, accountability, and effective execution of education initiatives under this reform.

The launch marks a step forward in modernizing public procurement in the education sector, aligning with broader efforts to promote good governance and value for money in public spending.
