FG, Senator Binos Distribute Relief Materials to Lamurde Clash Victims

The Federal Government, through the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), in collaboration with the office of the Senator representing Adamawa South Senatorial District, Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, has distributed relief materials to victims of recent communal clashes in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

A total of 417 bags of assorted food items, including rice, maize, beans and vegetable oil, were distributed to affected residents in Rugange, Waduku, Gamadio, Balaifi, Kwah and Lamurde communities.

Presenting the items to beneficiaries, the Director-General of the Binos Campaign Organisation, Boniface Katawan, said the intervention was facilitated following appeals made by Senator Binos to the Federal Government after the clashes displaced many residents and left families struggling to recover from their losses.

Katawan commended the Federal Government for responding swiftly to the needs of the affected communities, describing the support as a demonstration of concern for citizens facing humanitarian challenges.

According to him, the intervention was aimed at providing immediate relief to victims and assuring them that government had not abandoned them during their time of need.

He also called on residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and work towards lasting harmony, stressing that sustainable development can only flourish in a secure and stable environment.

“We appeal to all parties to sheath their swords and work towards lasting peace. No community can develop in an environment of persistent conflict,” Katawan said.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to both the Federal Government and Senator Binos for the timely intervention.

Speaking on behalf of the Kwah community, Agnes Jonathan described the assistance as timely and impactful, noting that many families lost loved ones, homes and sources of livelihood during the violence.

“Senator Binos has always stood by us during difficult times. This support will help many affected families cope with the hardship caused by the crisis,” she said.

Also speaking, a former PDP leader from Rugange, Melemedam Sokoto, said the community had suffered repeated attacks over the years, resulting in loss of lives, displacement and destruction of property.

“Our people have been through a lot. Many homes have been destroyed and several families displaced. This assistance will go a long way in helping victims during this difficult period,” he stated.

While appreciating the Federal Government for the intervention, Sokoto appealed to both federal and state authorities to find a lasting solution to the recurring violence in the area.

Similarly, a community leader from Waduku, Lento Menti, called for increased security presence in affected communities to prevent further attacks and protect lives and property.

“We appreciate Senator Binos for consistently speaking on behalf of our communities. However, beyond relief materials, there is an urgent need for stronger security measures to ensure lasting peace,” he said.

The affected communities in Lamurde Local Government Area have experienced recurring communal clashes in recent years, leading to deaths, displacement of residents and destruction of property worth millions of naira.

Stakeholders have continued to advocate dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence among the various communities, warning that persistent violence poses a serious threat to development, unity and social harmony in the area.
