President Bola Tinubu has approved the suspension of the cashless toll payment system introduced by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria at major airports across the country.

Recall that on March 1, 2026, the airport authority barred cash payments at toll gates, requiring motorists to use prepaid access cards or electronic payment channels.

But the situation got rowdy with passengers and motorists stranded for hours as confusion and heavy gridlock trailed the commencement of the exercise.

The development led to frustration from travellers who complained of missed flights and delayed pickups.

Addressing State House correspondents after Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting, Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, said President Tinubu has agreed to the suspension of the policy.

He said Tinubu was worried about the sufferings Nigerians were going through and had asked the Ministry to go back to the drawing board and restrategise on the policy.

The Minister also said those that had bought cards can continue to use them, also with cash until the Ministry and the relevant agencies will come out with new measures and methods to apply.
