Fintiri Clarifies Directive: District Heads to Drop Old Titles, Pledge Loyalty to New Emirates, Chiefdoms

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has clarified a mischievous misrepresentation circulating on social media that he has removed all District Heads and title holders.

In reality, the Governor has only directed concerned District Heads with traditional titles from their previous traditional councils to drop those titles and pledge loyalty to their new Chiefs and Emirs. This move aims to promote harmony and unity among the traditional institutions in the state, particularly with the creation of new Chiefdoms and Emirates.

District Heads are expected to seek new titles that align with their cultural traditions and heritage from the rightful custodians of their culture. Emirs and Chiefs of new Traditional councils must also seek approval before conferring new traditional titles on their District Heads. Unfortunately, some individuals have resorted to using AI to spread misinformation and tarnish the Governor’s image.

The Governor’s policy is designed to promote cultural preservation, unity, and progress in Adamawa State. As stated by the Governor, “As a policy, I call on all the district heads concerned to transfer their loyalty, rights and privileges to the new emirates and chiefdoms. Hence, traditional titles acquired from their old emirates and chiefdoms are to be dropped.”
