Fintiri Marks Democracy Day, Calls for Unity, Support to Deepen Democratic Gains

Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support for democratic governance, urging citizens to work together to strengthen institutions and secure greater dividends of democracy for future generations.

In a Democracy Day message issued on Thursday ahead of the June 12 celebration, Governor Fintiri joined Nigerians in commemorating the historic occasion, describing it as a symbol of the resilience, sacrifices, and triumph of the people’s will in the country’s democratic journey.

The governor paid tribute to the heroes of democracy, both living and deceased, whose struggles and sacrifices helped entrench democratic governance in Nigeria. He noted that June 12 remains a defining moment in the nation’s political history and a powerful reminder that sovereignty ultimately resides with the people.

Reflecting on the achievements of his administration, Fintiri said the Adamawa State Government has recorded significant progress over the past seven years, particularly in infrastructure development and other projects with direct impact on the economy and the wellbeing of citizens.

According to him, these achievements serve as evidence that democracy can effectively deliver tangible benefits to the people when properly managed.

“As we mark this year’s Democracy Day, I call for the continued support, patience, and cooperation of all citizens of Adamawa State and Nigeria at large. With your support, we can consolidate on our gains and provide even more dividends of democracy that will uplift our communities, strengthen our economy, and secure a better future for our children,” the governor stated.

Fintiri also stressed the need for national unity and collective action in addressing the country’s challenges, expressing confidence in Nigeria’s ability to overcome present difficulties through resilience, courage, and hope.

“The challenges of today cannot and will not overwhelm our great country. We are a people defined by resilience, courage, and hope. If we stand united, Nigeria will emerge stronger,” he declared.

The governor urged Nigerians to remain peaceful, patriotic, and committed to democratic ideals, emphasizing that nation-building requires tolerance, cooperation, and shared responsibility.

He further described democracy as an ongoing process rather than a one-time event, calling on citizens to actively participate in deepening and protecting democratic values to ensure prosperity, justice, and dignity for all.

Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, inclusive governance, and people-centred development, assuring residents that his government would continue to pursue policies and programmes aimed at improving the quality of life across the state.
