First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Conferred Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua Title by Ooni of Ife

Ile-Ife, Osun State – Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been installed as the Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua (Foremost Mother and Leader of the Entire Yoruba Nation) by the Arole Oduduwa and Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, during a grand ceremony marking the monarch’s 10th coronation anniversary.

The colourful event, held at the ancient palace in Ile-Ife on Sunday, drew an array of Nigeria’s political and traditional heavyweights, underscoring the cultural and national significance of the honour.

Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Ogun State Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima.

In conferring the prestigious chieftaincy title, the Ooni described Senator Oluremi Tinubu as a worthy embodiment of Yoruba virtues of grace, resilience, motherhood, and leadership, noting that the title recognises her immense contributions to nation-building, women empowerment, and the preservation of family values.

The First Lady, visibly moved by the honour, expressed profound gratitude to the Ooni and the entire Yoruba race, pledging to continue using her office to unite Nigerians and promote peace, education, and the welfare of women and youth across the country.

The installation further cements the close ties between the Tinubu family and the Ife royal throne, with President Bola Tinubu himself holding the title of Asiwaju of Ile Oodua. The rare dual honour of Asiwaju and Yeye Asiwaju now resting on Nigeria’s First Couple has been hailed by many as a powerful symbol of continuity, cultural pride, and national unity.

As drums rolled and praise singers serenaded the palace, the Ooni’s 10th anniversary celebration reached a historic peak with the installation of Senator Oluremi Tinubu, a moment many described as the crowning glory of a decade of transformative reign by one of Africa’s most influential traditional rulers.
