The first inter primary school football competition organized by the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has commenced on Friday in Yola.
Alhaji Mohammed Mailaspy, Chairman of Yola North branch of the union said that the competition was aimed at promoting grassroots sports in the area.
The competition is the first edition of Comrade Rodney Nathan’s cup 2018 has reawaken up extra curriculum activities of the entire schools in the state.
Mailaspy also said that the competition was a demonstration of the concern and welfare for pupils entrusted under teacher’s care.
He further said that the competition was a mark of appreciation to the state leader of the union, Mr Rodney Nathan for his remarkable achievements as the chairman of the state wing.
He urged member of the public to watch the tournament with keen interest so as to identify potential football legends as competition kicked started with two teams of Zone B versus Zone H.
Zone H defeated Zone B with five goals to one in the opening match and the tournament which is organised by the Yola North branch of the NUT has grouped the 24 primary schools within its domain in to eight zones,where each of the zones has three primary schools under it.
