‎According to a resident of Kinugun Kasuwa in Kaduna State, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the suspects were apprehended while in the process of collecting a substantial ransom reportedly amounting to approximately ₦50 million.

‎The situation escalated when negotiations or handover reportedly went awry, prompting local youths to launch an investigation. Their efforts led to the successful apprehension of the five individuals.

‎The arrested suspects are said to include only two from Kaduna State, with the remaining three originating from Owerri (Imo State), Akwanga (Nasarawa State), and another area in Imo State.

‎This multi-state origin has raised concerns about the networked nature of kidnapping syndicates operating across regions in Nigeria.

‎All five suspects are currently in the custody of the Nigerian Army at Kwassam, where they are undergoing interrogation as authorities investigate their alleged involvement in kidnapping activities.

‎This incident highlights the persistent security challenges in parts of Kaduna State, particularly in rural areas of Kauru LGA, where kidnapping for ransom has become a recurring threat to residents.

‎Local communities have increasingly taken proactive steps amid concerns over delayed official responses.

‎Security forces have not yet issued an official statement on the arrests, but the handover to the Army suggests ongoing efforts to dismantle such criminal networks.

‎Residents have called for intensified military presence and collaboration with local vigilantes to curb the menace.

‎Further updates are awaited as investigations continue.
