Adamawa began the distribution of relief materials to victims of flood and other natural disasters in the state on Wednesday.
Dr Mohammed Sulaiman, Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) flagged off the exercise in Yola on behalf of Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri.
He said that the massive relief intervention was assistance from the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) to bring succour to communities affected by floods and other natural disasters.
Sulaiman said the items were distributed directly to local government councillors representing the 226 wards in the state.
“Today, we flagged off the distribution of relief materials to victims of floods and other natural disasters in 226 wards across the state.
“The materials were donated by the NEDC to bring succour to communities affected by floods.
“We are distributing the relief materials through representatives of the 226 wards to ensure that they reached the affected communities,’’ Sulaiman said.
He noted that this was the first time that relief materials were distributed through the 226 local government councillors.
Sulaiman thanked the NEDC for the intervention and assured that the state government would always cooperate with it.
Responding on behalf of the councillors, Mr Nzashi Linus, Leader, Numan Local Government Legislative Council and Spokesperson of Adamawa Councillors Forum, thanked the state government and the NEDC for the gesture.
“We assure the state government that the relief materials would get to the people for whom they are meant.
“We should be held responsible if the materials did not reach those they are meant for,’’ Linus said.
Some of the relief materials were 8,588 units of 25kg bags of rice, 9,718 cartons of cooking oil, 1,808 of 50kg bags of sugar, 5,000 cartons of macaroni, blankets and mosquito nets.
