Residents living in river boundary areas are at risk of being heavily flooded as water levels in River Benue are increasing hourly. A visit to the flood-prone areas in Iniongon, Wadata, and North Bank on Sunday revealed that the water level increment is overwhelming, with burnt bricks stationed near the river boundary completely submerged.
The State Secretary of Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Mr. James Iorpuu, has called on those living near the river to take immediate action and relocate to safer areas to safeguard themselves against the impending danger.
Mr. Iorpuu noted that several announcements have been made regarding the release of water from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon, and adequate information has been provided through relevant channels for residents to vacate the areas.

A resident of the river boundary, who preferred to remain anonymous, disclosed that no proper arrangements have been made to cushion their plight. “No accommodation has been provided for us,” he said. “Flood victims are supposed to receive special attention, including provision of welfare, medical care, and housing. However, the reverse is the case; we are simply told to evacuate our properties and leave with our families without being provided alternative housing options, which is quite unfortunate.”
It can be recalled that Lagdo Dam authorities had announced the release of water, warning surrounding states to take precautionary measures.
