Displaced victims of last two weeks flood in Adamawa state have decried been stranded and neglected by the state government.
The flood had caused a lot of havoc in the state capital and some riverine Local Government Areas as houses, and properties worth billions of naira were reported completely submerged and destroyed by the flood.
A Displaced victim who is a residence of Jambutu one of the areas mostly affected by the flood, Alhaji Bello Usman said he and his family were still taking refuge in the house of his relatives but decried that no help has come from anywhere
He further explained that during the flood incident, the state government had promised to take palliative and preventive measures ‘but as l speaks to you, there is no signed of anything’
Usman said their food items, clothing and valuable properties were destroyed and they bearly feed and put on good clothes due to the flood disaster, whereas their environments were unkempt prone to cholera and malaria out break.
He said he was appealing to government to come to their aid in order to alleviate their present hardships and sufferings adding that government should come up with a preventive measure to mitigate further flooding sequel to the fact that now is the peak of the rainy season which mean more flood maybe experienced.
” Some of children have been diagnosed with cholera and malaria , if nothing is done to save the situations, there will be out breaks of so many diseases in the area because the flood brought dirt from other parts of the state and deposited them in our area making the environment unkempt for human existence ” he said
He said, some flood victims are still stranded and needed shelter and food items and clothing to mitigate their present living conditions.
Also speaking, a residence of Bature area, Mrs Ladi Emmanuel has said some them who were affected by the flood data were captured by state government but they were yet to receive help from government.
She said their major challenged in Bature is the bad road from the main express -road entering into Bature is a nightmare to the residents of that area adding that the bad also contribute to flooding because the road drainages have been blocked and needed to be evacuated.
” We are calling on the state government to construct our road and it drainages which are blocked and contribute to flooding in Bature.the road is also a death trap to motorists plying it’” she said
Mrs Emmanuel said the governor should please send relief material to the victims of the recent flood in order to alleviate their present hardships and suffering.
” in Bature our children are experiencing high rate of diarrhea, malaria fever and other form of diseases which needed the government quick intervention ” she said.
Every attempt to speak to the Secretary to State Government ( SSG) Alhaji Ahmad Bashir on the issue as the SSG said he was busy and cannot attend to the issue
But directed Nigerian Tribune to meet the Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency who was not on seat to comment on the issue at the time of sending this report.
