Foreign donors left Gombe for govt’s lack of political will -Inuwa’s aide

It has been discovered that development partners turned back on Gombe State over alleged lack of political will by former administrations.

Our reporter authoritatively learnt that the departure of development partners especially foreign donors from the state was over maladministration and lack of economic policies that ought to drive the state’s goals.

However, major partners have recently started returning to the state for support, sponsorship of programs and encouraging its many projects and programs.

Recently, at the launching of 10-year development program for the state (DEVAGOM), World Bank, United Nations, UNICEF among others were observed playing prominent roles.

Complimenting this report, the Special Adviser to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on finance and economic development Dr. Muhammed Ishiyaku confided in The Guardian Newspaper that the absence of the partners were one of the myriads of problems his boss encountered on assuming office.

According to him: “it was rough and dim at the beginning of this goverment but the dexterity and determination of the governor turned things round.

“We didn’t meet development partners on ground, we were merely struggling on the federal government’s monthly allocation.

“Development partners have left before we came on board,” he confirmed.

He however added that: “World Bank and USAID have returned, the UNFPA is planning to come to Gombe after many years of departure.

“They all left because government was not demonstrating the political will we are now demonstrating.

“From 2020, more development partners are coming to Gombe,” he hoped.

Ishiyaku however lamented lack of resources, cut in gestures by the development partners and constrained environment as major challenges hampering democratic service delivery to the citizenry.

He disclosed that the partners have reduced financial sponsorship to the state, “we have to source for more financial resources from other sources,” he said.
