Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and a prominent political figure in Adamawa State, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a resignation letter dated February 9, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Shangui Ward, Hong Local Government Area, Dr. Hong announced his immediate withdrawal from the party’s membership at the ward level.
The letter, which bears his signature and the date, states that the decision was a personal one, reached after extensive consultations with his family, friends, and political associates.
Dr. Hong cited careful reflection on prevailing circumstances and his future political direction as key factors in his choice to end his affiliation with the PDP.
”I write to formally tender my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Shangui Ward, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, with immediate effect,” the letter reads.
Dr. Hong expressed gratitude to the party at the ward, local government, and state levels for the opportunities, support, and cooperation extended to him over the years.
He described his association with the PDP as impactful, contributing meaningfully to his political experience and public engagement.
”While I take this step, I acknowledge the role the party has played in my journey and appreciate all those I worked with during my time in the PDP. I wish the party well in its future endeavors,” he added.
Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, a trained medical doctor, served in various capacities under the PDP, including as Minister of State for Health and later for Foreign Affairs during previous administrations.
He has been a key player in Adamawa politics, often described as a philanthropist and influential figure who supported party causes, including in recent elections.
His resignation comes at a time when the PDP in Adamawa and nationally continues to navigate internal dynamics ahead of future political engagements. No specific details were provided in the letter regarding any plans to join another party or pursue independent political activities.
The PDP leadership in Shangui Ward acknowledged receipt of the letter, as indicated by notations on the document.
