A devastating explosion occurred on Friday along the Katarko-Goniri Road in the Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing four persons and injuring 21 others. The victims, mostly from the Gotala Community, were on their way to the popular Buniyadi market when their vehicle stepped on a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

The explosion occurred in an area prone to Boko Haram insurgency, with the Gotala community located near the Sambisa forest, a known hideout for the terrorist group. The relations of the victims have called on the Yobe State Government to reconstruct the dilapidated road to avert the activities of insurgents, citing the high risk to lives of the communities and military formations in the area.
