Gabriel Adikwu & Co. in conjunction with the Nigerian Bar Association Institute for Continuing Legal Education what they described as the single largest gathering of lawyers in the north east Nigeria has organized an annual lecture in honoured of Justice Nathan Musa, Adamawa state immediate past Chief Judge High Court of Justice.
The 2023 Gabriel Adikwu & Co. Annual Lecture with the theme; “Lawyers and the Lsw in a Democratic Dispensation: The Nigerian Experience From 1999 to 2023”, revealed lesson learned, challenges & opportunities.
The event Barr Gabriel Adikwu in a statement made available to this medium said Nathan, the Wakilin Alkalai Adamawa was honored because of his meriteous law service he rendered to the people of Adamawa state until his retirement.
The annual lecture was held under the distinguish chairmanship of Hon. Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, the chief judge high court of justice Adamawa State, and key-note address were given by Mazi Afam Osigwe and Prof.Omoniyi Bukola Akinola.
The paper discussants were Hon. Justice Ishaku Halilu of the High court of Justice Adamawa State and Doctor Rabecca E. Badejogbin, Dir. Academic Nigeria Law School. In attendance were the Presiding Justice Court of Appeal Tools Division, The Chief Judge high court of Justice Plateau state, The lamido of Adamawa state and Chairman Adamawa state traditional council. Lawyers from the Five North Eastern States of Nigeria.
The event focused on a discussion around the need for the change of attitude in lawyers who have consciously or uncontiously used the law in a way and manner that threatens or seem to threaten the existence of Nigerian democracy.
Lawyers were encouraged and challenged to use the law for the betterment of the society.
While Prof. Omoniyi’ s paper centered on the need for lawyers to uphold the ethics of the profession in their daily conduct and practice.
The Gabriel Adikwu Annual Lecture 2023 which had over 300 participants in attendance ended with the presentation of Excellence in Service Award to Hoon. Justice Nathan Musa by the Hon. Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman the Chief Judge of the state.
