President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continued his series of consultations with key religious and traditional leaders today, meeting with His Eminence Sultan Muhammad Sa’adu Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, at the State House in Abuja.
The engagement comes just days after the President’s meeting with Bishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, the Archbishop of Abuja, signaling a concerted effort to foster national unity and cohesion amid ongoing challenges.
The agenda of the discussions was not immediately disclosed, but sources suggest it aligns with the President’s ongoing initiative to engage faith-based and traditional institutions across the country.
This follows President Tinubu’s meeting with Bishop Kaigama on November 4, 2025, at the Presidential Villa, which drew attention amid heightened conversations over claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria and recent remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Presidency has since indicated that Tinubu plans to address these concerns during an upcoming meeting with Trump, emphasizing a diplomatic approach to international relations.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, had earlier highlighted the President’s strategy of engaging religious leaders as part of a multi-pronged approach to ease national tensions.
“This is a time for us to reflect on our unity and come together. It’s not a time for division, rhetoric, or politics, but a time for nation-building,” Idris stated following a recent briefing at the Villa.
The Sultan of Sokoto, who is also scheduled to speak at an upcoming editors’ conference in Abuja alongside President Tinubu, is expected to address themes of national unity and interfaith dialogue.
The conference, set to commence on November 5, will also feature Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and other dignitaries, further amplifying the administration’s focus on constructive dialogue.
