A Ghanaian online news medium, newsghana.com.gh, has come under intense criticism from a Nigerian civil society organization, Nigerians for Good Governance (NGG), for publishing a false and libelous report on Dr Babagana Adam, the Permanent Secretary (PS), Health and Human Services, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The report, which was published on December 3, 2024, alleged that Dr Adam deceived the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, by falsely claiming to be a medical doctor. However, NGG has debunked this allegation, stating that Dr Adam is a well-known and highly respected veterinary doctor from the far North of the country.

NGG also dismissed the newspaper’s claim that Dr Adam spent over 400 million Naira to secure his appointment, stating that this was a blatant lie. The group further challenged the newspaper to provide proof of its allegations, stating that Dr Adam’s academic records are public knowledge and can easily be accessed from relevant Nigerian agencies.

Purely libelous claim, stating that the newspaper has no evidence to support its allegations

The newspaper’s report also alleged that Dr Adam’s tenure as PS has witnessed more deaths in FCTA-owned General Hospitals. However, NGG described this as a purely libelous claim, stating that the newspaper has no evidence to support its allegations.

In fact, NGG stated that Dr Adam’s appointment has led to significant improvements in the healthcare sector in the FCT. The group noted that Dr Adam has resuscitated the long moribund Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) and has ensured that the 14 General Hospitals in FCT are well-stocked with drugs.

The report was a slap on the face of Africa’s giant, Nigeria, and must not be allowed to go unpunished

NGG has therefore called on the Federal Government to take action against the Ghanaian newspaper for its libelous report. The group stated that the report was a slap on the face of Africa’s giant, Nigeria, and must not be allowed to go unpunished.

In conclusion, NGG has berated the Ghanaian newspaper for its massive professional incompetence, stating that its editors were clearly sponsored, unethical, biased, and lack the basic knowledge of journalism practice.
