The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE), Nigeria, in collaboration with PLAN International EU-INTPA Project dedicated to Strengthening Civil Society for the Advancement of Education in Northern Nigeria, is actively engaged in raising awareness about the rights of young girls and empowering students to build self-confidence and conquer low self-esteem.
A group of female students representing four schools in Yola North Local Government Area, including GDSS Luggere, GDSS Capital School, GGSS Yola, and Ladi Atiku Secondary School, gathered at Nurses House in the State Capital to commemorate World Girl Child Day, traditionally observed on October 11.
Mr. Ibrahim Bello, the Education Officer of FAWE, shared with Kanari News Media that the primary objective of the program is to enhance the confidence of teenage girls and emphasize the significance of their education within society. It also aims to generate awareness regarding the importance of girls’ education in Adamawa State.
“This program will bolster their self-esteem, enable them to articulate and represent themselves in public, and we anticipate that the knowledge they acquire will be passed on to their peers who could not attend today,” Bello explained.
Maureen Columbus, a teacher at GDSS Ladi Atiku, believes that this program will equip the girls with essential knowledge to become exemplary ambassadors in any setting they find themselves.
Several participants expressed their appreciation for the organizers’ efforts and committed to sharing the knowledge they’ve gained with others.
Gender-responsive pedagogy plays a crucial role in ensuring equal rights and equity for both genders.
