Gombe State Attorney General and commissioner for justice, Barr. Zubair Umar has bemoaned the nation’s judicial system which he said was reeked of corruption and other vices.
He also frowned at the slow pace of justice dispensation in Nigeria.
Addressing newsmen yesterday, Zubair said corruption in the sector starts from investigation to the top judicial officials.
He described as unacceptable, “the slow pace at which justice is being dispensed.”
He however threw his weight behind the clamour for independence of judiciary as one of the vital conditions for corrupt-free judiciary.
He reiterated urgent need to sanitise the judicial system, by ridden it of bad eggs.
On prisons in Gombe State, he noted that the prison conditions in the states are appaling, adding: “they are congested due to upsurge in crime.”
He lauded the state’s judicial system in justice dispensation, adding that: “the only minus is lack of facilities which the government will soon address through the construction of High court complex.”
