Gov.Bindow paid 200m for Rural Infrastructure Development as counterpart funding to RAMP

The Adamawa State Governor, Sen. Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla, who was represented by the Commissioner for Rural Infrastructure Development, Alh. Hassan Umaru Paka said the State Government paid the RAMP state implementation unit (SIPU) N200m as part of the counterpart funding of the project under RAMP 1 in 2015.

 He said the construction of 201.4km road under phase one and 140km under phase two of rural roads has enabled rural communities along these roads to enjoy bringing out agricultural products to reach the market in good time thereby reducing post harvest loses.

 The Governor also appreciated the contributions of donor agencies especially French Development Agency (AFD) and the World Bank (IDA) for supporting the construction of rural roads in Nigeria.

 He called on the contractors to execute properly all rural roads so as to foster socio-economic development.

 The Rural Access Mobility Project (RAMP) has constructed more than 4,000km of Rural Roads in the country since it was established in 2005 under the RAMP 1.

The National Coordinator of the programme, Engr. Ubandoma |Ularamu who disclosed this during a two day annual retreat in Yola, Adamawa state said the RAMP is poised to meeting the yearnings of rural dwellers in terms of bad road network in Nigeria.

 He said RAMP which was established in 2005 with the support of the World Bank and the French Development Agency has constructed more than 4000km of rural roads network in Nigeria.

 Engr. Ularamu pointed out that Kaduna state alone as one of few benefiting states has more than 950km rural roads constructed to give farmers access to good roads.

 He said more states have been included into RAMP 2 which included Enugu and Imo states and rural roads are been constructed in those states.

 He revealed that Adamawa state have also enjoyed rural roads access under the trench of RAMP1 and RAMP2.

 Adding that Adamawa state under phase one enjoyed 201.4km roads, and 240km roads under phase two. He particularly mentioned Bazza-Betso- Mayo Zah rural road which has been completed under RAMP2 to enable farmers to bring out food crops from their farms.

 He said to ensure the sustenance of these programmes RAMP has put together a maintenance Agency to repair these rural roads because water and erosion has been the biggest enemy of rural roads because rain water usually wash away roads constructed.

 The maintenance Agency under RAMP is to repair damage done to bridges and rural roads that have been constructed across the country.
 

The Adamawa state RAMP Project Coordinator, Engr. Vwapamkai Bafyau said the high record achieved on rural roads in Adamawa state would not have been possible without he Development Partners including the Federal Government, World Bank and French Development Agency and Adamawa State.

 He called on the benefiting communities to use the roads to transport foodstuff and farm implement while maintaining the rural roads.
