Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba has renewed the commitment of his administration to the provision of enabling environment for healthcare delivery system, mostly in combating malaria in the state.
Ishaku disclosed this during the flag up ceremony for the distribution of free long lasting insecticidal nets on Thursday in Jalingo.
The Governor revealed that Malaria accounts for economic losses amounting to billions of naira. saying no amount of effort and resources put in place would be too much to combat the minas.
Ishaku lauded the support of Global funds for HIV/AIDS, through the Catholic Relief Services and Federal Ministry of health as principal recipients, urging health care workers at all levels to be more dedicated and committed towards achieving the successful implementation of the campaign and realization of the desired objectives for free Malaria in Taraba.
The Governor appealed to the general public to take advantage of the campaign and ensure they all sleep inside the net every night in order to avoid mosquito bite and Malaria.
In his address, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health Musa Obadiah, said Malaria fever, over the years was responsible for the death of mostly Women and Children.
Musa Obadiah stated that the distribution of long lasting nets in the state was overdue since the last one was done in twenty eleven.
The ceremony featured decoration of wife of the Taraba state Governor, Anna Ishaku as Net Ambassador of Taraba State.
Speaking shortly after her decoration, Anna Darius Ishaku appreciated the Roll back malaria partners for finding them worthy of the position.
Anna pledged her support toward resolve to sensitise people on the significance of sleeping inside a mosquito net.
The Governor’s wife commended,the Catholic Relief service,CRS, Global funds and federal ministry of health for the provision of free mosquito nets for Tarabans.
She reminded Tarabans that Malaria is deadly disease that need to be addressed to safe lives.
The Governor’s wife said that she will not relent in creating awareness on dangers of malaria to mothers and babies adding that stakeholders in health sectors will be partners in this mission.
She urged registered residents to go to their various distribution points to collect their free mosquito nets and as well ensure the sleep inside the net.
