Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba state said his ultimate goal is to make Mambilla Plateau the tourism hub of the nation.
The Governor disclosed this during the 2019 world tourism day celebration held at Gembu, Sardauna local government area of the state.
He said that the choice of Mambila plateau for the celebration of the day, was not by coincidential but a deliberate strategy to showcase the rich cultural resources that abound in the area .
Represented by the Acting permanent Secretary, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Mathias Yohanna, Governor Ishaku said he has set in necessary roadmap for an all embracing frame work that will put Taraba state on the world tourism map.
He explained that from the onset of his administration, it recognized the potential of the tourism sector and has therefore ensure that this yearly event does not become empty.
According the Governor, mambila plateau aside from being the highest peak in the country, it hosts the 3050 megawatts hydro electric project and the mambilla tea factory.
He said in the years ahead, the state government will focus more on eco tourism because of its comparative advantage.
In a welcome address, the Charman Care Taker Committee of Sardauna local government area, Mr. Godwill Sol said the impact of Tourism cannot be over emphasized, pointed out that it currently rated as the highest source of income.
In her remark, Managing Director, Tourism Development Board, Christiana Mark Useni called on individuals to key into the tourism sector, adding that Taraba state is richly endowed with tourism potentials.
