The governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Friday, fired his Special Assistant on Digital Media, Mr Muritala Olajide Adigun, over fake news.
This was contained in a appointment termination letter issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun.
TGnews was informed that Adigun posted unverified information on his Facebook page leading to a series of backlashes on the government.
The sacked media aide also reportedly carelessly stole the picture of one of the projects executed by the Lagos State Government, posted on his Facebook page, and credited it to Governor Makinde’s projects.
Further, Mr Adigun claimed that the state governor in his readiness to combat the escalation of Coronavirus has purchased disinfecting machines to be used across the state which again proved false.
The letter reads in part: “I wish to convey the approval of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, on the termination of your appointment as Special Assistant (Digital Media), with immediate effect.”
This development was said to have infuriated the governor which prompted his dismissal.
The appointment termination takes immediate effect.
