Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reshuffled his cabinet, removing the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Commissioner of Information, and four additional commissioners.
According to his spokeswoman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the development is part of a major political decision aimed at achieving pragmatic political realignment for his government.
According to Bature’s statement, Governor Yusuf supported the long-awaited decision, which ultimately allowed for optimal performance, bringing greater democratic dividends to the good people of Kano State.
Those impacted by the big shakeup include the Chief of Staff, Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi, whose post has been abolished, and the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, who has been dismissed due to health issues.
According to Bature, Governor Yusuf replaced some cabinet members and transferred others to improve administrative performance and political retooling.
Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice; Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, Commissioner for Agriculture; Dr. Abubakar Labaran, Commissioner for Health; Hon. Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar, Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning; Hon. Musa Suleiman Shannon, Commissioner for Budget and Planning; and Engr. Marwan Ahmad, Commissioner for Works and Housing, have all retained their positions.
Commissioners for Solid and Mineral Resources, Sefiyanu Hamza; Religious Affairs, Shiekh Ahmad Tijani Auwal; Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso; Investment and Commerce, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya; and Internal Security and Special Services, Major General Mohammad Inuwa Idris Rtd., have also been retained.
The statement reassigns the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, from the Ministry of Local Government to Higher Education, Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman from Science and Technology to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata from Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation.
Hon. Amina Abdullahi has been reassigned from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry for Women, Children, and Disabled, while Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo has been transferred from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to the Ministry of Special Duties.
Hon. Ibrahim Namadi, Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, is transferring to the Ministry of Transport, while Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, Minister of Education, is moving to the Ministry of Water Resources.
Hon. Ali Haruna Makoda was reassigned from Water Resources to the Ministry of Education; Hon. Aisha Lawal Saji was reassigned from the Ministry of Women, Children, and the Disabled to Tourism and Culture; and Hon. Muhammad Diggol was reassigned from Transport to the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf has removed five cabinet members, including Ibrahim Jibril Fagge of the Finance Ministry, Ladidi Ibrahim Garko of Culture and Tourism, Baba Halilu Dantiye of Information and Internal Affairs, Shehu Aliyu Yammedi of Special Duties, and Abbas Sani Abbas of Rural and Community Development.
Additionally, the Governor has directed the Chief of Staff and the five resigned commissioners to report to his office for possible reassignments.
