The Gongola Peoples Forum (GPF) extends heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and the leadership of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Wesley Bathiya, for their remarkable achievement in passing and signing into law the Adamawa State District Creation Law 2024 and the Chiefs Appointments and Deposition Bill 2024, which is currently awaiting the Governor’s assent.
In a statement released today, GPF commended the administration for its courage and commitment to addressing the aspirations of the diverse ethnic nationalities within the state. The newly enacted District Creation Law has already resulted in the establishment of 80 new districts, a move that reflects the Governor’s responsiveness to the long-standing yearnings of the people.

“We salute the initiative, courage, and sensitivity of His Excellency the Governor in heeding the yearnings of the ethnic nationalities of the State and enlarging their working space,” the statement read. “This bold action has validated the wishes and aspirations of the people who voted for His Excellency in the belief and confidence that he would actualize their dreams.”
The GPF emphasized that the Governor’s actions demonstrate a commitment to good governance and a dedication to the principles of democracy. “Today, the Governor has demonstrated that he is a leader who keeps his promises and puts the people first in his tireless attempts to reengineer and reinvent good governance in Adamawa State,” the statement continued.

The organization highlighted the significance of the new law, stating that it not only represents a historic moment for the people of Adamawa but also restores their rights to self-determination and autonomy in the administration of their traditional institutions. “Your Excellency, by signing into law this historic Bill and immediately creating 80 more districts, you have not only demonstrated courage but have also shown tremendous goodwill towards the yearnings of our people,” GPF stated.
The GPF also commended the Adamawa State House of Assembly for its steadfastness in recognizing the critical need for these changes and acting in synergy with the Governor’s people-oriented agenda. “We commend the State House of Assembly for its sensitivity and steadfastness in recognizing this all-important need and acting in synergy with your administration’s people-oriented agenda,” the statement noted.

As the organization reflected on the significance of these legislative achievements, it expressed pride in the leadership of Governor Fintiri and his administration’s commitment to development. “Your tenure will be remembered as the triumph of democracy,” GPF asserted, acknowledging the successful implementation of the Governor’s 11-point agenda during his first term and the ongoing progress under the revised 8-point agenda.
The statement also addressed the opposition to the new legislation, asserting that the critics’ claims regarding the potential destruction of traditional institutions are unfounded. “We, the people of Adamawa State, stand with you and state that giving our people the right to their self-determination is not synonymous with what our detractors claim as retrogression of our traditional institutions,” GPF declared.
In conclusion, the Gongola Peoples Forum reiterated its commitment to uniting the people of Adamawa State and empowering them through self-determination, peaceful coexistence, and development. “Once again, we congratulate Your Excellency, the Governor, and the State House of Assembly for a historical act of franchise and development,” the statement concluded.
